After a number of years working in agriculture, valuation and property, Frans spent nearly 25 years working in the energy efficiency industry as the founder of ECOsystems. This company was sold to Pioneer Energy in 2015. ECOsystems was one of the largest and most innovative private companies in the commercial energy efficiency sector with the big hairy goal of ‘reducing energy use in commercial buildings by 50%’. We maintained this level of saving for a wide range of buildings including a tertiary institution, a museum, a commercial office and a supermarket.
Our industry was typically focused on reducing energy use by around 20% but after some international market research, we concluded that, in our temperate climate, savings of 50% should be possible. As a result of this vision we went looking, identified the opportunities, implemented the measures and verified the savings.
As a result of having sold a partners shares and taking in an investor director we can share the pros and cons. And having gone through a rigorous sales process, we have also developed a unique set of documents to help others go through this process and prepare their business for sale. This includes the things to do before approaching trade buyers or business sales companies.
We strongly recommend you start this process at an absolute minimum, 12 months before you hope to have a sale.
