Frans completed a degree at Lincoln University in Valuation and Farm Management before establishing a consultancy business in the property sector and then moved into energy efficiency in 1993.

He then established ECOsystems in 1995 with the tagline ‘Saving Energy and the Environment’. ECOsystems grew to become one of the largest private energy efficiency specialist companies in the commercial sector and received numerous national energy efficiency awards. The company was a pioneer in smart streetlight controls being the local representative for the Streetlight.Vision CMS which was installed at Auckland Transport. ECOsystems was sold to Pioneer Energy in 2015.

Frans is a longstanding and current elected board member of the Energy Management Association of New Zealand. Energy Management Association of New Zealand

In 2016 Frans completed the inaugural New Zealand training for ISO50001 Energy Management and has successfully developed energy management policies and plans with a large private sector corporate organization, a District Health Board and a council in a rapidly growing part of the country.

In 2016 he also established ecoNEW to further develop energy management planning for corporates and Local Authorities and work with Small Medium Enterprises to realise their potential.  ecoNEW provides smart street lighting consulting.

In 2018 Frans helped establish the Kata School to bring the practices of continuous improvement that Toyota use to the local market.  He is the current Chair.
